Mustering steers

November 29, 2011 0 By Amanda

With the weather really heating up here at Bimbadeen, and the grass drying off considerably, we were pleased to send off a couple of decks of our EU steers recently.

We run a strong commercial herd alongside our stud herd at our Eidsvold properties – and demand the same fertility, early finishing and soundness qualities from both herds.

This series of photos was taken as Bruce and Mark mustered in the steers from the bottle tree country in Bimbadeen’s northern paddocks.

Our EU market requires early-finishing animals of 0-4 teeth and between 240 and 420kg dressed weight.

This mob are pasture-fed on native grass, buffel and leucaena.

It is an easy walk from this paddock to the yards…

… where the steers are sorted before trucking.

With temperatures reaching into the high 30s …

The musterers were soon ready for a swim…

The horse-riders just had to wait a little longer for theirs!
